The Governor's Office

The Governor is His Majesty The King's representative in the Cayman Islands and acts as the de facto Head of State. The Governor also has key reserved areas of responsibility which contribute to the overall safety and wellbeing of the Cayman Islands. These reserved areas are defence, external affairs, internal security (including the Police and Regiment) and good governance. The Governor also appoints the Head of Government and other senior officials to public office.

Governor Jane Owen took up her role in Cayman in April 2023.  She is a British diplomat who has served as Ambassador to Switzerland & Liechtenstein and Ambassador to Norway.  She was Deputy CEO of the British Government ministry responsible for Trade and Investment, and has worked in the British embassies in Japan and Vietnam as well as the British High Commission in India.  Her roles have focused on commerce, finance, security, EU policy and environmental issues.  She graduated from Trinity College Cambridge with a BA Hons in Russian, French and German.  She has two grown up children, and enjoys scuba diving, swimming and pickleball.
