CIPS Advises Customers to Collect All Mail

25 October 2025 | Press Release | By: Brandon Jackson-Swaby

The Cayman Islands Postal Service (CIPS) is advising customers, businesses, and postal agents to promptly collect all mail — including P.O. Box contents, general delivery items, registered articles, and parcels — in anticipation of potential impacts from Hurricane Melissa.

All CIPS parcel, registered-mail, and P.O. Box halls will operate during normal business hours, which may be adjusted or temporarily paused if weather conditions deteriorate or emergency protocols are activated. Customers collecting registered items or parcels are asked to bring a valid photo ID and any collection slips or tracking numbers to expedite services.

Deputy Postmaster General Melissa Martinez-Ebanks emphasised that the request covers every class of mail, not only registered items, noting that early collection directly supports storm readiness and faster service recovery. She said CIPS is taking a proactive approach to safeguard operations and public safety, adding that “we’re asking customers to clear their P.O. Boxes and collect any held items at the earliest opportunity so we can reduce weather-related risks and minimise disruption. If the Islands move to a Warning phase and we secure facilities, our procedures require us to remove and tub all mail from P.O. Boxes, general delivery, registered, and parcels — and then unpack it all again after the All Clear. Less mail in the system now means a quicker restart for everyone.”

CIPS remains committed to facilitating reliable service while prioritising the safety of customers and staff. Service updates, adjusted hours, or counter changes will be shared via CIPS social media channels and official Government advisories.
