Environmental Hazards and Oil Spills

The Cayman Islands is prepared to handle marine and land-based pollution that can threaten both residents and the natural environment.

Several Government agencies: Chief Petroleum Officer, Environment, Environmental Health and Water Authority, with the assistance of the private sector, cooperate in handling inland and marine fuel spills, hazardous materials, sewage and other threats.

The Department of Environment is the first response agency with responsibility for marine oil spills in Cayman Islands waters.
